The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is about as unlike her name as a church can get! Far from the 1850s pomp and circumstance with which we were built, St Mary's, as we're now called, is a lively and informal church that holds flexibility at the heart of our worship. We will adapt to meet the needs of anyone who joins us. We have a beautiful, very colourful, church building, but we sit lightly in our pews and when it's cold we meet in the village hall for most services.

According to village talk, St Mary's Church was built by the Lord of the Manor, Mr Middleton, in the 1850s. He created a church that holds 125 and is liked by many. Our church is the biggest building in the village of 300 people. Other landmarks include the bus stop and ‘the tree’!

We continue to hold a service of worship every Sunday, and our preferred style of worship is informal and quite charismatic. Most of us find our Christian roots in the evangelical tradition and love scripture and modern music, but we are also generous and inclusive. The church and village are one community, and we love eating, drinking and socialising together.
